Terms of Use

Version 2026-08-09 · Effective 9 August 2026

Plain-language summary

Scribble is a local-first writing and creation tool. You own the material you bring to it. Optional external services are chosen by you and may have separate terms, age/eligibility rules or costs. AI output is not verified fact or professional advice. These Terms do not remove rights that consumer law gives you.

1. Who operates Scribble and agreement

These Terms are an agreement between you and the operator trading as RQAI (“RQAI”, “we”, “us”) for the Scribble web, progressive-web and future mobile applications. RQAI is presently an unincorporated project; the registered-company particulars will replace this interim description after incorporation. Contact hello@rqai.co.uk.

You accept these Terms by selecting “Agree and continue”. That action is electronic acceptance. The current document version and timestamp are stored on your device. The Privacy Notice explains information handling but is not itself a contract or blanket consent to optional processing. If the legal operator changes after incorporation, we will identify the new operator and seek renewed acceptance where the change materially affects this agreement.

2. Eligibility and external providers

Scribble does not impose a blanket age threshold merely to keep local notes. You must nevertheless have legal capacity to accept these Terms; where the law requires it, a parent or legal guardian must accept or supervise use. We do not collect a date of birth or claim to verify age.

AI, cloud, GitHub, app-store and other connected services have their own account eligibility and guardian requirements. Do not connect or use one unless you satisfy its current rules. A provider-specific eligibility statement is shown where appropriate before configuration; see the Provider & Data Routing Notice.

3. The service and free period

Scribble provides note-taking, structured blocks, tables, diagrams, figures, stickers, drawing and flipbook tools, dictation, optional AI assistance, optional cloud synchronisation and optional publishing. Features vary by browser, device and third-party availability.

Scribble is offered without a Scribble licence charge through 4 August 2027 under the announced free-access programme. Optional AI, cloud, GitHub, internet, app-store or other third-party services may charge you directly. We will not introduce a Scribble charge without clearly showing the price and obtaining any agreement required by law. The dormant licence mechanism creates no present payment obligation. Any future paid plan will have separate purchase, renewal, cancellation and refund information.

4. Your content and publishing

You retain rights in notes, drawings, recordings, prompts and other material you create or import. You grant RQAI only the limited permission technically necessary to provide an action you request; because the core app is local-first, RQAI ordinarily does not receive your library.

Rights in AI output can depend on applicable law and the chosen provider’s terms, and output may not be unique. Scribble does not promise that an AI output is copyright-protected, non-infringing or exclusively yours.

You are responsible for having rights to material you import, for reviewing publication, for backups and for the lawfulness and accuracy of what you publish. GitHub, Google Drive, OneDrive and other destinations are accounts you control. Deleting Scribble data does not delete copies already published, synchronised, shared or retained by those services.

5. Optional third-party services and AI

Connecting a provider is optional. Its contract, privacy rules, geographic processing, usage limits and fees apply. Credentials are stored on your device and sent only to the service they authenticate, but browser storage on a shared or compromised device is not a password vault. OpenRouter is an intermediary: both OpenRouter and the routed model provider may receive a request. DeepSeek states that personal data is processed and stored in the People’s Republic of China. Read the Provider & Data Routing Notice before enabling a provider.

AI responses are probabilistic and may be inaccurate, biased, incomplete, offensive or fabricated. They are assistance, not legal, medical, financial, employment, educational, safety or other professional advice. Use human judgement and verify important claims, citations, permissions and disclosures. Scribble does not make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects about people.

If you publish AI-generated or manipulated material, you are responsible for disclosures required by law, the provider contract or platform rules, including rules for deepfakes and public-interest text. See the AI Transparency Notice.

6. Acceptable use

You must follow the Acceptable Use Policy. In particular, do not use Scribble to break the law, exploit children, create non-consensual intimate material, deceive through impersonation, infringe rights, compromise systems, or make prohibited or high-impact automated decisions. We may restrict RQAI-operated services where reasonably necessary for security, law, abuse prevention or protection of others.

7. Software and intellectual property

RQAI and its licensors own Scribble’s software, branding, interface and supplied assets, excluding your content and third-party open-source components. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app while you comply with these Terms. Open-source components remain governed by their licences. You may not sell access, remove legal notices, bypass security or use automated extraction to build a competing dataset, except where law expressly permits.

8. Availability, changes and ending use

We aim for reliable offline-first operation but do not promise uninterrupted availability, compatibility with every device, permanent third-party integrations or preservation of a particular provider model. Back up important work. We may fix, add, remove or change features. For a material legal or privacy change we will update the version, explain the change and request renewed acceptance where appropriate.

You may stop using Scribble at any time and erase local data through Settings or device/site controls. We may suspend RQAI-operated access for a material breach, security risk or legal requirement, normally with notice where practical.

9. Warranties, liability and consumer rights

Scribble is supplied with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or mandatory consumer rights. If you are a UK consumer, applicable digital-content and service standards remain available to you.

Where RQAI is not at fault and subject to non-excludable rights, RQAI is not responsible for losses caused by material you publish, failure to back up, compromised credentials, provider account configuration, third-party services, or reliance on unverified AI. Scribble is not designed as an emergency, clinical, legal-decision, credit, recruitment or safety-critical system.

If you use Scribble wholly or mainly for business, to the maximum extent permitted by law RQAI excludes indirect or consequential loss, lost profit and lost opportunity. Nothing limits data-protection obligations or liability that the law does not permit us to limit.

10. Law, complaints and contact

These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Consumers retain mandatory protections and may bring proceedings in courts available under the law where they live. Email hello@rqai.co.uk with “Scribble legal” in the subject so we can try to resolve a complaint.
